Hey,i recently asked this question on a different thread and was adviced to buy a broadcast monitor or use scopes..My question is how can i check if my colors will appear correctly on broadcast in vegas?Iv never used th broadcast colors plugin in vegas coz i have on idea how to use it n if its the answer to my problems.Any one pliz

If you were preparing something for broadcast, you would run the broadcast color filter on any video tracks. This will make all your colors "legal" for broadcast. Video has about 16 million colors, broadcast signal about 2 million. The broadcast color filter brings your video values in line with broadcasting abilities. Just choose a preset like 7.5 IRE setup / conservative. You'll be fine with that.

Also, if you read the help on the broadcast color filter it might help your understanding.

if you use a quicktime .mov file be careful because Vegas will destroy it when rendering to tape.. make sure you use the computer rgb to studio rgb preset before rendering to tape

If i bring a quicktime file in to Vegas from final cut, DVCPRO HD codec in a .mov wrapper, when I render it out to tape, it blows out all the whites, unless I add the preset of computer rgb to studio rgb to it. Hope that explains it. (took me 2 weeks to figure it out)

I doubt very much it does anything like that to the footage; it's probably just the difference between viewing it on a computer screen and then viewing from the tape on a TV. In fact, your putting on the filter pretty much confirms that. :)

If it has anything to do with the footage itself, it's mostly like because you're transcoding from a more robust codec to a more compressed, less-color-info one.

here is what I have been experiencing. when viewing the .mov DVCPRO HD codec footage out to a external professional monitor through firewire from vegas, the footage looks fine and whites are not blown out at all on the scopes. then I export to tape and view on the same monitor while capturing to tape. After the timeline renders and start printing to tape all the whites are blown out (confirmed this by viewing on scopes).. Simple as that.. Does not make sense. if I put the computer rgb to studio rgb preset on the .mov file the time line looks washed out but prints to tape fine. I'm not sure what is happening, but I found the preset solution from this article.. http://www.glennchan.info/articles/vegas/v8color/v8color.htm Maybe you can read it, and figure out why it is doing what it is, and if it is a vegas only problem.. or any other workaround
