im curious as to how would one up rez standard def to high def and what exactly that does. I use fcp 5.1.

If you're talking about upconversion like on DVD players, I don't know that you CAN do that. at least not with good results. You can however output to a higher res from FCP and I believe you can do the same using compressor.
