upload/download speed question...

Hey guys, so I did a test on my speed (I'm on a cable modem). I got a 7406/kbps for downloading and 486/kbps for uploading. Yet, right now I'm downloading a program and it's only downloading at 82.1/kbps. Shouldn't it be downloading faster?

Someone mentioned there are free programs out there that would boost my speed. is that true? Also, I think I fixed any firewall issues that could impeded my speed but is there a way to insure I've done whatever is needed for maximum speed?

Thanks for the help guys :)

Sometimes the limitation is on the other end, the website you are trying to download from. A good test is to go to the Apple trailers page, download a trailer and see what speed you are getting.

There are programs that can tweak settings, but you usually only get maybe a five percent boost.

okay, once this current dload finishes I will try that, thanks man! Actually, the server i'm downloading from is in florida, i'm in los angeles, that's probably it.
