Upgrading Graphics Card?

I have a Nvidia 8800 GTS graphics card and was thinking of upgrading to a newer generation if i would see performance gains with using vegas video software. What do you guys think? Im 3 generations behind on the card, will I see some gains in dual monitor mode. Preview in best is alittle choppy being played back.
