Upgrading Avantone CK-1 to Sennheiser MKH50

I currently have an avantone ck-1 and am thinking of upgrading to the Sennheiser MKH-50 (wanted schoeps but I live in Seattle---humidity can be a problem).
I have a mix pre d + marantz 661 that I'd connect the mic to.
The main reason is that the avantone does not have a good reach--i find that it needs to be fairly close to the subject and considering i film, I'd prefer it to be further away in interior shots. I have a rode ntg3 for outdoor use.

Neither of those are true shotgun mics as used for film making.

I am sure the audio experts here will give you far better options.

You may 'prefer' the mic to be further away but Mother Nature is the one that calls the shots. There really is no such thing as microphone "reach." A hyper or a shotgun is no more sensitive to distant sounds than would be any other type of mic. What they are is LESS sensitive to unwanted sounds arriving from off-axis, thus allowing you to apply a bit more gain when recording. But no mic magnifies distant sounds like a telephoto lens does for images. Whether you've spent $150 for the Avantone or $2000 for the Schoeps, the optimum working distance for a hypercardioid or super-cardioid mic is going to be in the neighborhood of 18" from the subject when recording dialog on location.

The MKH is a great mic.. (usually for interiors) As Steve and David stated, it ain't magic by any means and subject to the same law of physics as the cheaper Avantone. So just throwing money at an issue will not necessarily get you better sound... possibly worse.
BTW, the black font color is very difficult to read. LIKE THIS
