Upgraded Memory, rendering still slow.. Need Help

I just upgraded my Mac OSX to 3.4 gigs of memory from 512 MB, however, I see no difference in rendering time when using FCP4. Do I need to adjust any settings? What are some potential reasons why this is happening?

Thanks,

Anthony

Rendering times won't be affected by upgrading your RAM...

that is entirely dependent on CPU and RAM Speed.. not RAM Quantity..

however.. with more ram you should be able to have move realtime effects going at once.

and you can also up FCP's RAM useage in the File > System Prefs

I'm a little confused. How do I speed up RAM and CPU?

You can't (if you are thinking of some kind of preferences to change)

All the current G5's use the same RAM speed. You would have to upgrade your processor speed for faster rendering.

Something tells me its not the speed of your computer that is the problem.

There actually is one setting you should check. Go to your system preferences. Then go to energy saver. Click on the options tab. There is a processor performance setting. Your system came preset with it set on the automatic setting. Select Highest performance. see if that does anything notice able. I don't know if it will. I would surely hope a 3 gb RAM upgrade would show some results, ( wish I had 3 gb )

I don't know with a mac, but with my pc I recently upgraded to 2gb and definetly notice a difference in programs.... especially graphic programs... I haven't had to render anything since upgrading though so I'm not sure, however I bumped up my ram usage in Vegas to utilize the extra ram installed.....

RAM will allow some speedup, especially if you were at 512. It needs to dump and fetch less from disk and can cache a lot of the results. You may not notice depending on your type of work.

Make sure you have reasonable disk space (1-2 GB min) for the system.

Other options to check the speed of your disk. If you have a slow, external hard drive and driving a video out with the firewire at the same tiem that can slow down the system.
