Upgrade to a Raptor HD?

Hey all,

I am looking to maximize the performance of my Dual 2.5 G5 Edit System, especially since I will be upgrading to HD once the HVX200 arrives. Would an upgrade to a WD Raptor Drive as my boot drive bring me a significant enough increase in speed to warrant it's purchase. Will it do anything in terms of improving any performance in Final Cut Pro? I have the following system:

Dual 2.5Ghz G5
3.5GB RAM
ATI 9600 XT
160GB SATA 7200 RPM Boot Drive
250GB SATA 7200 RPM Storage Drive
16x Dual Layer Burner

I will be purchasing an HD capture card and HDLink with the Apple HD Cinema Display. Is there anything else you guys would suggest for a FCP HD Workflow?

hey, just poking around and saw raptor in your subject line. I'm not a FCP guy or Mac guy, but I just bought 3 36gb raptors for my PC. 1 is my system drive, and the other two are set up in a RAID0 config for a working drive. then i have a larger EIDE drive for storage.

i just installed it a few days ago, so i can't give you my full impression yet with editing. but i can tell you installing software goes a lot faster, and the operating system feels faster and more responsive. programs load faster. the system bogs down less when doing heavy multitasking. large files open faster.

i say, what the heck, give it a try. it's only $105 at Monarch, with free shipping:
