Upgrade from JuicedLink DS214 and Rode SVM

I'm ready to upgrade my current 5DII rig, which is a JL DS214 preamp and Rode SVM direct into cam.
If I can gather the courage and $$ I'm looking at Marantz PMD661 and AT BP4025.
I'm an amateur hobbyist, as far as my videography is concerned. As a professional artist and semi-pro photographer, I do however have very high standards, for all of my work.

My only interest with this rig is capturing ambient nature sounds outdoors (bird song, water, bugs etc.)
1. Is it worth it (hard to say, I know) to spring for the Oade Bros. upgrade of the preamps to provide even cleaner gain for low volume, relatively distant capture, or might I be happy with the stock unit? (They charge more to upgrade after taking delivery.)
2. I can't afford any more expense than the above-- is there an alternate mic that might suffice, e.g. AT 2022?
3. Is this my best option for a shock-mount with the BP4025: AT8415 Universal ?
4. Can I record in camera through the Marantz as well as to the card? (It has RCA Stereo female jacks.)
4. You're gonna hate this one: If I bail and decide to stay in camera, would a JLDT454 with the BP4025 provide me any cleaner (less hiss) sound than my current set-up, which is completely unacceptable for what I'm recording? I know recording to a camera or to an external is no comparison, but the setup would be slightly smaller, lighter, cheaper and less hassle in post.

Thanks in advance for any advice, it will be greatly appreciated!
