Update Final Cut

Hey guys,

Maybe a stupid question but I am new to Final Cut Studio, but I never go on the internet with my macbook pro, I only wanted to do it in case of a update. Now the update of 5.1.2 will be soon available and I heard the update for compressor was all ready there. So now my question: What do I need to update and how do I do it? Do I need a serial number etc. I wanna be prepared because I have to go to a place with wireless internet and hook on there. Any help would be great.

Thanks
Niels

The compressor update is ready, and ive already downloaded and installed. the 5.1.2 update wont be available for a few more weeks. Hopefully sooner. You dont even need to launch FCP or Compressor. Just as long as both are installed on your Mac all you need to do is run Software Update, which can be found in the apple menu (top left corner of screen)

Launch that and wait for it to find new versions. That is all.

Why dont you go online with your MBP?

Ah ok, thanks for the quick responds. I don't go online with it because I have a pc laptop that I use for internet and I am really afraid of things (virus or something else) that will slow the macbook pro down if I often have a internet connection.
By the way, is it this simple as well when you have to get a new version of FCP like 5.2.1, I know it will cost money, but how do you update it then?

5.1.2 wont cost money, only updates that involve the first 2 numbers cost money. Most of the time its only upgrading from version 4 to 5 instead of 5.1 to 5.2, that will be free as well so it will be upgraded using the software update.

And in case you didnt know. There are ZERO , 0 , nil, none, nada viruses on the Mac OS X, and you can safely do whatever you want on your mac whenever you want. You can visit any site and not get a virus, ANYWHERE .

Its a trojan, but Sophos can try and sell their software if they want by posting such things. I had to read about it somewhere else because the shilling and BS on sopho's site was getting unbearable, and i remember reading about this when it happened, and it was a sad attempt at breaking OS X, which it doesnt even do, it just messes with the APPs.

I've always had my Mac on-line, broad-band, never had a virus or anything. This is how I've worked for many, many years. No problems.

If you feel more comfortable not connecting your Mac to the Internet (but your PC is vulnerable to all sorts of nasties that the Mac isn't, so why put the PC on-line and not the Mac?), then you can download the software updates manually, but not to your PC, cause the file structure will not copy the Resource Fork, thus, render the update files useless.

Yep, put your Mac on-line, for sure. Sophos is full of it, stay as far away from them as you possibly can.

Been using Macs since 1984 (that's right, one of the first 128k models). Only once have I had a "virus" (if you can call it that). It was a trojan horse that affected, guess what.... MICROSOFT OFFICE!

Now you know MS is pure evil when they even get Macs to be vulnerable by making their software unsecure for the Mac.

Go ahead- visit lots of animal pr0n sites. You won't get any virii (unless you stick your prick in something).
