update apple help please

I need help I purchased a Apple imac from my sons school for him it has os 8.6 on it I want to update it to the latest os but having trouble. 1 I cant seem to find out whats the next os 2 where to find it. the apple site to tell you the truth is very missleading. please help me.

What exactly are you asking? your original post lacked any coherent grammar so I am taking a stab in the dark here.

if your asking where to find the next OS up from 8.6, which would be OS 9.. then you will have to find an old copy somewhere or borrow it from someone cause I don't think apple makes OS 9 CD's anymore.. though I am not sure on this one, they might still send you a CD if you inquire about it.

if your asking What is the LATEST OS available.. that is Mac OS X Tiger (aka OS 10.4). And it is really easy to find on apples site. The top Nav bar has links to 'hardware' 'news' etc... and right there it has a software link.

you never stated what iMac model you have? but I assuming the old colourful one... Panther runs ok on those but Tiger i am not so sure about.

as an aside, what is misleading about the apple site? it is one of most well laid out corporate sites out there... ever try and find something on dell's site?
