up-res 4:3 to 16:9 HD

I am working on a project and I shot most of the stuff on a Cannon 60d, I am using mostly the HD footage but I have some SD footage from a PD-170 in 4:3. What is the the best route to up-res the footage to work on in FCP 7 on a HD timeline so I can output it ready for a different party to place it on a DVD?

I have Compressor, and after affects on a MAC book Pro.

original footage:
ntsc 720x480
fps: 29.97
4:3

timeline:
HD 1280x720
fps:59.94
16:9
h.264

So I have to crop it, up-res it, de-interlace it and convert it to the right format. But I have no clue about how to do this. I have spoke to other people about it and but they were unclear, something about outputting it to an Animation.

Can anyone help please?

I have some footage from a GOPRO HD and would like to do the same if you can help with that too.
Thank you for taking your time to check out my post.

I would use After Effects to create the new files. Start by creating a new composition with the dimensions and settings of your FCP timeline. Import your NTSC SD footage. Put one clip into the composition. You'll have to enlarge the image to fit 'wall to wall'. Find a pleasing crop.

In the projects panel, right click on your clip and chose interpret footage>main. In the popup choose fields>none. Do this for all of your clips.

Create compositions for each clip and repeat. When you're done, send the compositions to the render queue. Choose quicktime to export, using the animation preset.

You would do far better to downres your HD footage once, rather than upressing the SD to HD, only to then downres it back to SD.

That is a great idea, I only have a few clips to up res. A different party is putting it to dvd. I do not know if it is going to be HD or Sd DVD. I think up res would be the best solution. I will take your advice on a new project I am working on. Thank you for your help.
