unwanted effect

Evening.

I've been a d8@k and wondering if anyone can help. I was about to close down vegas (half way through an edit) lent on a few buttons, unsure which exactly, which gave the whole film a wierd grainy mottled effect. Thinking I'd be clever and shut it down so when I reopened it would revert back to the last time I saved, I exited but clicked yes to save rether than no...I know.

Any ideas how I can get back to the last saved edit rather than undoing the random effect I applied?

Around 40 hours of work on this, so if you could help there will be a special place in my heart for you.

Sorry, i think you've overwritten your previous edit...

The 'wierd grainy mottled effect' affects the whole project, or just a specific event?

Does it affect other (unchanged) projects too? If so, that's good, it suggests you've just done something to your preview/display options (e.g. set it to low quality?), and haven't actually hurt your project data.

Hey Clang.

I've taken your thoughts and copy and patsed the edit into a new vegas project and the effect doesn't appear to have transported over. Think you're right - it only affected the preview.

Phew - was clambering for the big bottle of paracetemol for a bit there, good man. A genie from Kiwi! Sorry....I'll go now

Excellent. Yeah, sounds like you accidentally adjusted your project/display properties. It's worth checking out the list of Vegas keyboard shortcuts - there are some surprisingly useful ones I use all the time - and of course you can edit the shortcuts too.

FWIW I periodically use the "save as" function and rename the file to filmV2, filmV3 etc. That way, if I seriously mess up, I have only lost what I did since the last version change

I'll give them a look Clang, they'll prob make things easier just haven't been bothered. Which ones do you use the most? Annoying things I find are freezing a frame (prob simple but haven't learnt it) I cut one frame and copy and paste it five, ten, twenty times. Also, re my previous problem, accessing an effect I've applied to an event. Once I've whacked it and carried on with editing, I don't know how to go back into said event and jiggle about with it or cancel it.

Wjauch. Yeah, should really back it up like that, but sometimes you don't have the time; Work, girlfriend, Inpending zombie attack in my head. Still think Vegas should have access to the last 10 or so 'Save's'. Maybe it has but I need to do my home work?

For simple freeze frames, look for the 'Save snapshot to file' icon (looks like a little diskette) above the preview window. The only downside is that the resulting snapshot is exactly as it appears in the preview window, which can be annoying if your shots involve lots of filters and effects - any subsequent change in those filters and effects won't be reflected in the snapshot. But for general use, it's great.

The keyboard shortcut I probably use most is M, to create a marker - markers make navigation through a film (even a short one) so much easier.
