Unstable graphic overlays

Using Final Cut 6, editing HDV 720p native, running three different cuts in three windows on one screen with a black overlay that creates arches. The overlay is filled with small hand written white type.

I used compressor to create an MPEP4 file; Used DVD Pro to make an SD DVD. Most of the program plays well, however, every so often I have a glitch in the type, it moves sideways and fuzzes , all of it . I adjusted the contrast and still have the problem. Any thoughts?

Dont create an mpeg-4 file to send to DVD SP. You're just dropping data that doesn't need to be compressed.

Instead create a QT Proxy movie. (This is the opposite of a Self Contained movie). What this does is it allows you to have a smaller file, that basically links DVDSP to your FCP timeline. When it renders out the MPEG-2 it will be the highest quality that DVDSP offers.
