Hey Everybody-

The dvxuser forums have been a tremendous resource for me. You guys have cured a few of my headaches in the past. With that being said I hope you read the next paragraph.

I recently shot some 16:9(1.78) DVCPRO 50 footage on the SDX 900. The footage is going to be used in a 720x480 4:3 DV project. The DVCPR0 50 tape was cross converted to mini DV and is squeezed on the tape. So here's my big question, can After Effects convert the 16:9 squeezed footage into 4:3 letter boxed footage? Unfortunately I can't transfer the footage again and convert it out of the deck. Thank you for taking the time out to read this post.

Feliz Navidad

sure, you can just use a standard DV 4:3 720 x 480 project with a .9 pixel aspect ratio (PAR) and then shrink the 16:9 footage to fit within the 4:3 area using the scale parameters under the transform section of the file. You can do this in PPRO or any other editor as well just shrinking the wider clip to fit within the 4:3 image area. the surrounding area will black by default ibn most editors, and pending whether or not your background is transparent or black in your AE comp you can either just leave it at that, or simply add a black solid behind your video layer for the duration of the composition. if you need to do this to more than one clip, just copy the scale parameter from the first clp you do, select all the other clips, and paste it.
