Unsharp mask, strange results

After I am finished with my edit, I create a new sequence with the resolution based on my deliverable format. I then nest the original sequence, resize if needed and apply a very slight unsharp mask to bring out the edges a little. This has always worked fine for me accept now I am noticing that whenever there is a white matte or a video isn't at full transparency, the unsharp mask really starts messing with the lightness and how the levels are treated. I am using premiere CS5 btw.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Instead of nesting and resizing, try just exporting out the original and setting the desired output size in the export settings.

The issue isn't from nesting it's from applying the unsharp mask, which is ideal when you resize footage since the interpolation causes a loss in edge sharpness.

On a side note, premiere pro does a better job resizing a nested project rather than setting the resolution in AME. Pixel interpolation is more advanced directly in your timeline which results in improved edge sharpness as well.

It seems AME does not normally use the superior algorithms available with hardware acceleration. (Assuming you have a supported nVidia card.) You may see better results doing a direct export, bypassing AME.
