uniquely shot interviews

A doc from PBS a while back about green buildings had a few interviews which were not common at the time. In particular the way they showed the whole room sometimes, rather than a close up interview, which is somewhat fitting considering that it is about architecture design. Also, excessive use of tilt shift lenses (a p+S35mm adapter and a 720p Varicam where used with tilt shift lenses.)

Fog of war, as was mentioned above, has some daring composition with slants, tilt-shifts and high contrast lighting.

I guess he likes to use that interview space. It is very nice. And nice to have a recognizable style.

That's a great corporate documentary, directed by Errol Morris no less, with his DP Robert Chappell.

I wonder if it's RED? There's a lot of cutting on reframing (left/right/center) in post.

Yeah… I love it. I'd love to achieve something similar myself for corporate work. Apart from setting, can it really be as simple as a single light with a chimera on it?

Yeah, I think it's a single soft source (I believe there's a light on the BG, too). Simple yet effective, right? And the locations add the perfect subtle touch, don't they?

Maybe not unique, but very nicely done.

Same location, different interview, less shadow. Looks like there could be some bounce here.

Interesting that there's 2 Morris/Chappell films here...

i also think the ibm campaign is great.

the reframing does imply that there was plenty of frame to start with!

one light? perhaps but it feels plenty soft.

sweet.

ymmv

be well.

Here we used high angle and split-diopter to blur out the obvious (here the classroom seats):

For this spot the people were talking about loosing close members of family so flares, glowing and various in lens distortions appeared to be appropriate:

Those two are from a personal doc (link in my signature) where we intermixed totally weird framing (very dutch) with something very static. Also we tried to play with stuff dead in the center of the interviewing person.

Very very nice... subject-motivated and beautifully done. Did you generally have a spot aimed at the camera?
