Uninstall previous CS version before installing CS6?

Wondering what other's experiences and preferences are here. I have no need for extended backwards compatibility, that I can think of. All my previous projects were either in CS5 or CS5.5, and from what I've read CS6 is fully compatible with anything from those two suites. So is there any benefit to having CS5.x and CS6 installed together? Any detriment? I would appreciate any assistance, thanks.

I have always kept the last two versions running in parallel for as long as I can remember. Back on my iMac I had CS3 and CS4, my macbook pro runs cs4 and cs5 at the same time no problems.

Any particular reason other than legacy support for older projects?

I almost always keep the previous versions of things just in case something broke in the newer version. Does tend to happen. Once it's clear it's no longer necessary, I'll purge.

Thanks for responding. I have read elsewhere that uninstalling an older version while a newer one is installed can potentially lead to shared resources being removed and hampering the functionality of your new CS. Has this happened in your experience?

just legacy

i switch macs every 12-18 months so I've never uninstalled anything ever. For me its better to have a new lower end mac every year than have an expensive mac and try to make it last 5 yrs

Thanks again. It seems the main reasons people keep their old versions installed are:

1. Legacy project support
2. Legacy plugin support
3. "Just in case"

Since none of these apply to me, I think I will just go ahead and clean the older CS' off before installing CS6. Thanks everyone!

Not really, no.

When I meant legacy I meant that sometimes a client wants a copy of the project or file and they can't open it because they don't have the latest version so I save it down. Illustrator is a good one for this and sometimes photoshop.
I haven't been in this situation for quite a few years but old habits die hard and I keep one old version around till I flip computers
