Hi everyone, it looks like im probably going to buy 2 dvx's for wedding videography and documentaries, but as ive been looking at online dealers ive noticed that the unidirectional mic on the camera in all the pictures isnt included.

I was wondering if there is a better mic for the camera- i know it may be a bit more expensive, but if it'll be better, then i think it'd be worth it.- specifically one that may be good for getting good sound in an interview type setting- for the documentaries.

I will also be purchasing 2 sennhiezer wireless mics for the weddings- but other than that, i'll need a good unidirectional or shotgun mic im guessing. -- ive read so far about the me66, is this a good one?

For putting a mic on the camera, you have a couple options:

-Sennheiser ME66/K6 combo
-Audio Technica AT897a
-Sanken CS-1

For wireless, use the Sennheiser ew112p g2's, or the Sony UWP-C1's.

Re: Unidirectional microphone for dvx100a

thanks, that was the lavalier mic i had in mind-

the only thing is which is better to choose?

theres me2 or me4 then theres whether its in the 500, 600, or 700 mhz area.

which should I choose?

and by the way, is the softie hairy porcupine thing to cover the me66 from wind and noise good to buy? or should i just get a regular little cover for the wind and noise?

Re: Unidirectional microphone for dvx100a

Go with the ME2. It's omni. Frequency range is going to depend on the area you are using the system in. If you are going to be shooting exteriors, you'll want to have a softie. For interiors, a foam windscreen will be fine.

Where you live. Sennheiser has a frequency chart on their website that will help you.

Re: Unidirectional microphone for dvx100a

If I buy a softie windscreen, will I be able to use that anywhere, or is it only useful in windy places?

thanks

Re: Unidirectional microphone for dvx100a

You can use a Softie anywhere... a stock foam attenuates high frequencies by about 2-3db and a Softie will affect highs by about 6-7db... on many mics with a rising presence this flattens the mic response and it's no big deal.

My normal procedure is Softie outdoors, no matter what... and foam indoors, unless I'm feeling lucky and I'll go bare indoors... but if I'm HAND booming I always use at least the foam... aggressive hand booming may even require the Softie indoors!
