Underwater Housing for HVX

I will be shooting some underwater stuff below the ice of a frozen lake, yup, there are people that do that sort of thing... cudos for them and this guy apparently dives under the ice all the time.
I will likely end up working with a Gaffer that owns an underwater housing made for the DVX and I was wondering if it will work for an HVX or if can be modified so that we can use his housing and save money...
Also, if that won't work, what should I look for? It would be either a bare HVX or if we can we might get a wide angle adapter on it.

will not work .most housing are a tight custom fit. if you using a hvx200a it is wider and better for light than the old hvx200. how deep? whats the shot? looking up? check out my hvx waterhousing on my site .www.jetaddiction.com under equipment rental .

Ok, I kinda figured that they wouldn't really work but I needed to hear it. We are not going deep, at most say 6ft to see the bottom, but likely we won't go deeper than a few feet. Mostly is looking up so we would be fine with the HVX light-wise. If need be we could get some big lights going though the ice but it should be just fine as it is mostly looking at the ice above. There might also be a shot where we would love to drop the camera into the water, to simulate someone falling though the ice. I haven't figured out how we'll mock up the ice chunks but I guess those might end up being made of painted foam or something soft like that..? Hopefully we'll be shooting with a 170, which would be even wider, but it wouldn't fit your housing or any other 200 housings... however if we did end up working together we could use your 200. At full wide, equivalent of 32mm, I would be fine with the 200's lens, but wider would be nicer for operating.

FYI, we'll be shooting in Pelican Lake by Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

there is a very small wide .7 thread on lens that,s called a redeye. i had one for my fx1 . only sticks out about 2mm . someone must have a rental out your way for the 82mm redeye, ...are you looking to get the "jumper" shot when he falls through the ice? check it out. that was well done except they used some foam. ...when i upgrade to the hpx170 i will make a new waterhousing that week.

You mean the movie Jumper? I would love to have a cable or simply dip the camera with a crane and rope with an Op holding it semi-steady with his hand from behind or something like that until it is low enough for the diver to grab it... and what I want it to look like is a shaky hand-held from over the actor who falls first... the problem is that we don't have the budget to make a pool indoors or shoot it here in LA... I will have the diver for one day but I would need a second diver to jump in as the actor and do it that way... I could also just have the diver dressed and have him shoot his legs going in, which is in fact a great shot to get... but seeing the whole body from above would be best.

If you have a 170 housing then we should talk budget... FYI, we are doing the whole thing for peanuts, but hopefully I can make it worth your while and I can get your housing rented once you test it with your own 170, I'll want evidence that it won't burst open if I am not using your camera!
:)

not alot of ice in la. nov/dec/jan shoot? will have my hpx170 camera as soon as available. i shoot in extreme conditions and have designed it for that. check out my trailer at .wwwjetaddiction.com click on the poster.
