Understanding what CC FX's really do

I really would appreciate it if someone could give me a quick pointer or two about the relationship between Gamma Contrast and Saturation... I am trying to figure out how they work and manipulate the chroma and luma and so on... I really want to know how things work.

not having the time or crew we shot with available lighting at this bridge over the LA river and several of the shots are way too dark... I expect it to be noisy... but I remember bumping into a noise reduction effect that seemed to have a very subtle effect yet an effect... again, I would love to hear from someone that understands the way this one works...

I am worried with loss of color definition and any other type of deterioration that I might not notice until I get to hook up my 1080 monitor and get it calibrated...

The color corrector:
offset, gain, gamma work on the Y' Channel.
RGB values are converted into Y'CbCr values, and offset gain and gamma operations are applied on the Y' channel.
Offset = add/subtract
Gain = multiply
Gamma = a power function / exponent

Y = 0.299*R + 0.587*G + 0.114*B
B' - Y' = self evident (with a scale factor and offset applied, this becomes Cb; I forget those numbers)
R' - Y' = self evident

I think wikipedia has all the numbers. Rec. 601 luma co-efficients are used.

"Saturation" in the color corrector multiplies the Cb and Cr values. (Note that the HSL saturation works in HSL color space and saturation actually means something else.)

2- For noise reduction... try Mike Crash's noise reduction filter.

Other approaches like Noise Ninja, Neat Video, Remove Grain in After Effects may work better.

There are also other approaches (digital diffusion).

I copied it to a .txt that is now on my desktop... have to read that a few times and keep it handy somewhere till it sinks in... will check out Wiki too, thanks for the pointer...

Is Mike Crash's NRF in Vegas?

Holy crap! Nice page!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Now I got a ton of stuff to play with for a while!!!

Thank you Glenn!
