Undersized video output

Somehow my output video is now about 30% undersized. The viewer window looks like this,with the rest black, but if I use the wireframe to expand it, the output video does not change. I was able to fix it in the last project by opening each clip in the preview window and using 'scale" to enlarge the frame size. Any idea what I have done wrong and how to correct it? Or, how to go back to default settings in FCP?
 
You may have zoomed out in the canvas. Up top next to where you turn on the wire frame mode there is a button drop down and that should be set to "fit to window". That sounds like that is what is happening.
 
Shift+Z does a fit to window in the Viewer, Canvas, and Timeline windows. Must just be a window size problem. Double click the clip in the Timeline window to open it in the Viewer window. Go to the Motion tab, if Scale is 100, it's normal size.
