Unable To Open Project !! Help

I just finished the first part of my video and FCP 4.5 crashed. Now when I try and open that project it says "UNABLE TO OPEN PROJECT FILE". Has this happen to anyone here? How do I recover the project?

Thanks

I just went through the render files and all of the files are still there, the project file just won't open.

dude, that sucks. maybe try disk utility to repair permissions or whatever. and if you have auto-save enabled, maybe there are some backups somewhere on your drive. command-f and search for the file name and see if there aree copies. i've always wondered how i would deal with that. let us know what the solution is if any....

good luck.

I just took a look at the size of the project file and it says Z... KB, it should be around 5KB or more, anyone?

I suggest you check it out, it has a link you may want.

You have to trash the preferences.

Here's how you do it. Go up to your spotlight, and search

"com.apple.FinalCut.plist"
-or-
"com.apple.FinalCut.plist"

You usually don't have to type in the whole damn thing before it pops up.
After you do that, take it, and trash it.

Restart your computer. Close all of your programs and open Final Cut.
Then set up your capture bin and settings again.

Some bug makes this happen every once in a while.

If you have the autosave feature turned on, then check the autosave vault. There should be an edit in there (most likely a couple or so) that will be close to what you saved upon exiting the program.

It's a no go! I trashed the preference file and restarted the computer. It's still telling me unable to open file.

I turned off the auto save about 6 months ago, so that definitely not going to work. Thanks anyway!

Anyone else?

sorry, just had to......

Indeed cheezweezl!

Sorry to hear that twocik23, but it sounds like the file is corrupted or has some serious error. This has happened to me before and there was nothing i could do, but the autosave saved me! I really do suggest you turn it back on or at least save multiple files at intervals with save as...
