Unable to Import DVCPro .mov

I've been running circles all morning searching, test shooting, trying codecs etc.

I'm on a Macbook Pro shooting with a HVX-200 in DVCPro HD straight to HDD through Onlocation. Obviously I'm using the .mov setting in Onlocation and not the .avi, but if i try to import either format into Premiere I get the "Codec missing or unavailable" error. I'm using the appropriate project settings for the footage, (1080i60), but no go. I also double checkd the 'compilerp2.bundle' as I've read that is a problem as well, but it loads with Premiere normally.

Quicktime gives me the white screen and recommends third party software to play these files, (I tried the Sheer codec but nothing happened).

What am I doing wrong?

Are you trying to edit/play these in a PC or Mac version of PPro? Because on Windows, there is no DVCPROHD QuickTime component bundled with QuickTime. Instead, you'd have to pick up Raylight Decoder from DVFilm to play and edit them on Windows. I can't say for sure, but I think they'd play back correctly, as is, in OSX.

Conversely, is there an option for recording to DVCPROHD .avi files? If so, those should play back and edit on Windows properly.

(Oddly enough, I have this program, but have never had a chance to use it, so I do apologize if I'm speaking out of my posterior :D)

You may need the Raylight Encoder.
(Google "Raylight")

If you had FCP you would automatically have the Codec on your Mac

Raylight for mac does the trick. I really thought I was building a solid set up running the HVX into Onlocation and Editing with Premiere, but obviously I lacked a little research. 99% of all the footage I shoot I run straight to HDD, is no one else running this setup?

Its not your setup or workflow that caused the issue.

Simply a missing CODEC.

Mac and PC have different interpretations of the DVCHD Codec and require two different solutions.

Which Codec?

That I get, but I don't seem to be able to find what codec it is. I have done a lot of searching, yet no one else seems to have the same problem with this setup, so it leaves me without an answer. Is raylight my only solution?

No .

You could install FCP (expensive solution)

You could follow up Phantom Videos offer as he posted in this thread.

You could try the Raylight Encoder Demo

Right on, I'll stick with Raylight for now and maybe there will be a codec one day that allows PP to handle the DVCPro .mov files....

Raylight is a codec that allows DVCPRO50/DVCPROHD QuickTimes--you just need to get the Raylight Encoder Pro package. Another options is the DVCPROHD Decode from Calibrated Software.

And this isn't a PPro issue--it's a QuickTime issue.

I tried the Calibrated Demo, obviously it has the watermarks, but when I import into PP, the image is squeezed. Does this go away as well when you purchase the licensed version, (emailed them directly still waiting on a response).
