Unable to capture via Firewire 1394

I own a DVX100A and when I connect it to my pc with a firewire cable, I get a message saying:

USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB Devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.

I click it, and it brings up the box most of you have probably seen, but nothing is listed, so I click close.

Well, let me reiterate. When I connect my DVX100A, I get that same message, click the message, and see a list of a bunch of 'Unknown USB Devices'. When I connect it to my Sony Handycam, I get the same message, and when I click the message, there is nothing listed in the box.

I have tried two different firewire cables on two different cameras. I opened my PC and swapped the USB pin and the Firewire pin locations on the motherboard (my USB ports worked so I know it's not the PC...), and I still get the same message.

I can see the 1394 host controller in my device manager. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, doesn't work.

I have Windows XP Pro SP3. Does anyone have any solutions to this?

Edit: I just disabled IEEE1394 in my BIOS and when I plugged the cable into my handycam, it got detected, and the same message popped up.

That doesn't make any sense.

Did you build this computer yourself? Do you have your mobo drivers disc?

Did you install the various port drivers from the disc?

Yes, built myself. Yes I have drivers' disks, and yes. Nothing works. I'm going to buy a PCI to Firewire card today. If that works I'll update this thread so someone else who has this problem can do the same if they see this.
