Ultra Daylight HMI light

I just got a Anton Bauer Ultra Daylight onboard HMI light for my Betacam SX camera at work. I used it for the first time on Friday. The one thing I noticed is that the light is really really bright! I have used high wattage HMI's on stands before that came with diffusers to cut down the light.

Is there anything small enough that I could use with my onboard HMI to cut down the intensity of the light?

I basically had to aim the light at the person then I irised down and it looked good in the viewfinder but I know the brightness of the light was killing the guy that we were interviewing!

Some those are dimmable, I guess yours isn't.

if the ceiling is low enough you can bounce off it.

they sell scrims for those lights and diffusion as well. you cam ake your own for cheap thin aluminum or tim and gels

Lots of people use Chimera light bags on HMI is your situations. The ba both speads out the light, directs it, and lessens it's output letting the subject see the camera. You can also make one yourself using black foamcore and a heavy (like 216) diffusion or thin sheet, or window sheer.
Good Luck - Wilson

You can find stainless steel wire mesh at your local hardware store. Cut a little bigger than needed, and fold the edges over a few times.

I'm not familiar with your light, but I use little clamps attached to each other -- one clips to the scrim, and the other to the fixture. Works great.

A Chimera or other light box would work better though. I think this is something you'd need to buy, as those suckers get hot.
