Ultimate S2 & Audit issue w/Aspect Ratio

I've got a mixed bag video with stills, OLD video pulled off of VHS, and DV video that I shot w/DVX then rendered out 24P widescreen.

I was messing around with the Audit section of Ultimate S2, and didn't realize that it will change the aspect ratios of EVERYTHING in your media bin!!!

Ooops.

So, trying to fix everything now (there's no reset that I can see in Ultimate S2 and selecting undo in Vegas doesn't correct it either), I'm wondering about default aspect ratios for these items.

Scanned photographs by a client on all consumer stuff is most likely square aspect ratio, yes?

OLD VHS and VHS-C footage would be 0.91 DV aspect ratios or 1.0 Square Aspect Ratio?

I'm rendering this entire project out to 24P Widescreen, so my DVX footage is fine at the 1.2121 ... just don't want the rest of the stuff to look too fat/skinny, so I need to get it back to the original ratios.

There are two different aspect ratios at play here....
1. Pixel Aspect Ratio (which affects your stills, or can..)
2. Screen Aspect Ratio (which affects how your media fits in the Preview Window)

You can select any media that isn't the aspect ratio you want, and either use US2 to reset it to original aspect, or, you can manually set it. The PhotoMontage tool is what you want to use to set Square Pixel Aspect (photos) to correct size, the Audit tool matches EVERYTHING in the project to match whatever the project aspect ratio is.
Make sense?

Makes sense, though I'm not sure if it's a good thing (at least for my needs) to have everything set to the same ratio as the project, as it stretches things out that were only meant for square pixel aspect ratio (i.e. the pictures). When I DID set everything to the 1.2121 pixel aspect ratio (widescreen setting for the project), it stretched everyone wide, making them fat.

Sounds like I may not be exactly understanding what you're saying, but thanks for the reply all the same, Spot. At least for this project, I don't think I need any further clarification, as I believe I've got everything fixed that needed it.

Sorry the audit function didn’t do what you wanted (you didn’t say what problem you were trying to solve with it). This function was added at the request of a PAL user who had media that Vegas didn’t recognize correctly. They brought in some video and stills (which were in PAL format) Vegas just didn’t recognize this. So the audit function blindly changes everything in the project to match the pixel aspect ratio of the project in case Vegas doesn’t detect this properly. It sounds like this was not the problem you were having and therefore the audit function was probably not what you wanted to do.

I just wanted to clarify the purpose of this function so you understand when to use it.

Ahh, well then I can see how it would come in handy then. I thought Audit was for going through, once a project was completed, and looking for things I might miss (small gaps, incorrect aspect ratios, etc.)

For me, I was initially looking for something that would properly size/crop all the pictures withouth doing the whole pan/zoom thing ... I figured out how to do it in the Photo Montage tab, but only AFTER I had forced all media to the same pixel aspect ratio through the Audit tab ... then had to clean it all back up again.

You've described exactly what Audit does, but it has no way of knowing that you don't want certain images to match the project aspect or not...so that's one parameter you probably don't want Audit to test/check for.
