ultimate frame rate

was thinking if they ever where going to make a cam with a real universal frame rate it should be 49 fps. If you shoot your entire movie in that format it should be really easy to think afterwards if you want to show the movie in 23.976P, 24P, 25P, 47.952P, 48P, 50P, 50i, 60P or 60i.

Instead of doing a master in 24 that will look like 24p in 60i world, this will really look different depending on what format you choose to display it on. It would be fun to se the same movie in such array of different formats.

Or is it time to me to go to bed now???

Re: ultimate frame rate

Panasonic's VariCam does 1024x768Px60fps, then has down-conversions to the desired framerate.

I'd rather the camera capture MORE data, i.e., higher framerate, and let me subtract info as needed.

Re: ultimate frame rate

yes but it cant (well yes it can if it chooses 49 fps or whatever) But if you shoot 49 you can easily convert afterwards to every other format even if 60i would be the hardest.

the Varicam shoot 60 frames but you set it up before how it will record. Example: if you choose 24 fps it will record those 24 fps on a 60 fps timeline. As same style as 24pa is on the dvx (24p on 60i).

Or im I wrong?

Forgive me, but I've got to step in and correct this, because people have such an incorrect notion about the VariCam.

The VariCam doesn't just shoot 60p and then drop frames. It has a variable-scanning CCD, so when you go to shoot 24P, the CCD actually runs at 24Hz, shooting 24 individual frames per second. The tape recorder runs at a constant rate and always records 60p, so the tape recorder will duplicate frames, but they are true 24P frames, shot at 24Hz, equally-spaced in time. It's not converted in post down to 24p from 60p; instead the additional frames are flagged and discarded. It's really just like 24PA -- the real 24P frames are generated and recorded, and the rest is discardable "filler" that gets removed when editing.

For size, it's 1280 x 720, at any rate from 4 to 33 fps, plus also 40 and 60 fps. Each frame is a full-fledged full-resolution progressive-scan frame.
