If this is in the wrong place then please move it mods to the correct location.

Not sure if anyone here is familiar with the Lensbaby. It is similar to a tilt shift lens but at the same time differnt. You bend, push and pull this lens to set the "sweet spot" or the point of focus to where you desire it. The rest of the image is going to be blurred. It creates a really unique looking effect. I have one for my D200 DSLR and it rocks.

It previously was only available for 35mm film/ DSLR's but now you can grab one for your video camera. Will work on 35mm or Video Cam's w/ Adaptors. All the specs and so forth are listed on the site. There is also a clips section that you can view to see some video's shot with it. Pretty cool stuff. Thought this might interest some of you.

I Can't imagine spending that kind of money on a lens like that when I could easily create that effect in a program like After Effects.

right, it's not much of a fancy effect for an in-lens mechanism, but i understand how one could use it if they didn't want to spend time in post.

i have one. i find you can never really create the organic nature of glass dispersion in post. you can get close but not as close as photons traveling through actual glass.

Did you see the focus pulls in the first demo? I would be shocked if anyone got that kind of result in AE. Plus it's nice to keep the DP closer to the "final look" whenever possible.

i have one. not the 3g, just the lb2.0. it's pretty cool but for video it's tricky to focus and operate at the same time. cool if you want in and out of focus but hard to keep your subject sharp.

Yeah, you're probably right. I guess for someone like myself, who has next to no budget, would rather use the tools they already have.

I believe that if I worked at it a bit, I could get something that looked pretty damn close. On the other hand, it would never look as good as the in-lens effect.

In my opinion, the effect does not justify the price. On the other hand, if I had the dough, then why not?:2vrolijk_08:

if you just want blurry edges or the "sweet spot" effect, you can easily do it in post or even just rub vaseline on a uv filter leaving a clean spot in the middle. however to match the cool warped bokeh effect of the lensbaby in post i think would be near impossible. here are some pics i took with mine. again, mine is the cheap ($150) manual model.
