U/V Filter Question

As with anything you put in front of your lens, it will affect the image somewhat. Will a regular 82mm U/V filter (Tiffen, Schneider, etc.) on the HVX to protect the Leica lens be okay or do I need a special kind (spells more expensive) being that its an HD style lens.

Dear Ernest,

A good high quality clear or UV filter should have no effect on the image quality. I would recommend a multi-coated one to minimize the possibility of flare or ghosting caused by the filter glass.

The focal length of the lens the filter is being used on is an important part of the equation that determines the quality (flatness) required. The maximum focal length of the HVX200's lens is only 55 mm.

All Schneider B+W filters are suitable.
