Typical video budget?

The question I'm left with is, which cost more the video or the singer's dental work?

I'd say that's $75-100K. Can't say that's a typical budget though. A lot of Canadian artists operate in the $25-50K budget range too.

Background: I produced a few in that range this year.

Typically how large is your crew and what is your profit at the end of the day?

Wouldn't it be more wise to rent the equipment?

What Ryan said...never enough.

Usually crew size is around 16 people + artist/talent/extras, etc. Of course we absolutely rent all the equipment. No room in those budgets for purchases. On most projects, I take 10% of total budget. Sometimes we shoot on 5DMK3, but most often it's RED (either Scarlet or Epic) or C300s.

Since iTunes and the internet in general, the music industry in the UK at least seems to have suffered as budgets won't be a fraction of this, just getting a band signed is hard enough, when they do succeed it's often from being spotted in the US rather than Europe.

I've seen bands post that budgets that were once £100k for video are now £5k!

sound stage for 2 days - if the producer is clever it's with one of those fancy photo studios with props so the props are already there.

Studio - $3-5k/d
Camera (crew & gear) - $5k/d
Make-up & costums - $2k/d
Actors - $500/d
extras - $1k/d

director/producer - whatever they ask and get

editor - $1-3k

So around $30k + director/producer salary.
OR $3k if the director/producer is cashing in favors.
