Types of lenses

MANUAL!!!!!

How could you focus your lens if it's automatic? Remember there is no motor or drives to adjust aperture or focus or zoom on these adapters as of now. Thus to "pull focus" you have to have the capability of manual focus. There may be lenses that allow for both... I'm unsure though.

Please read the sticky on top of this forum that has a whole discussion about lenses before posting.

This brings me back to the age old idea of mine... DVX Wiki. I mean enter all the need to know information on there. Someone moderates it... built in reference for people!

Okay, so then the link that Chad posted is not real Zeiss lenses? The price sounds too good to be true. Okay, so let's say if I only have the money to buy just one Zeiss lense for now, which lense would you recommend? Which one is the one that use often? Would that still be the 85mm?

And yes, I'm still reading the stick FAQ link....it's a lot of pages though.

i'm pretty sure that $250 is the day rental price. not to purchase.

zeiss makes lenses for movie cameras
and lenses for SLR camera.

the nikon mounted (slr) zeiss is the ZF zeiss link and here
which are in the 400-1800 range

and for movie cameras link and here
which are thousands of dollars

most popular (slr) lense set is 28mm ,50mm ,85mm
most people who only have one lense have a 50mm

some people like the 35mm alot, some people use 135 instead of 85mm
best thing to do is rent or borrow and see what you like:)

Okay, if anyone can be so kind in giving their suggestion/advice/opinion on the following lenses from Nikon.

Nikon Wide Angle AF Nikkor 28mm f/2.8D Autofocus Lens
Nikon Normal AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens
Nikon Normal Macro 55mm f/2.8 Micro Nikkor AIS Manual Focus Lens
Nikon Telephoto AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens
Nikon Telephoto AF DC Nikkor 135mm f/2.0D Autofocus Lens
Nikon Telephoto Nikkor 180mm f/2.8D AF ED-IF Autofocus Lens

Specifically, I'm interested in the 28mm, 50mm, and 135mm lenses. Will it work with the Brevis or Letus35 Extreme adapter? Your opinions are much appreciated.

here an interesting webpage
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/zoomsMF/80200mm.htm

This may be my next lense, then I might sell off all my primes, but without initially purchasing the primes I may not understand these lenses. Make sure to read all four pages on this len's development. Stop at the af version, as af lenses are electronic control which has no value on an adapter. No dof adapter has electronic control of the lenses... aperature nor focus. Unless the af or aperature can be switched off or hacked.

bwest, so that means most the lenses I posted above are useless with the dof adpter then since most of them are auto focus. Where do you find Nikon lenses of 28mm, 50mm, and 135mm that are manual focus?

I'll give those four pages some reading right now. Thanks!

bwest, so as long as all my Nikon lenses are manual focus, it should work fine with the DOF adapter, right? As far as quality of the lenses, I guess it's clear that the Zeiss is much better but for now I'll settle with Nikon lenses. But most important is, I just want to make sure that it will work with the dof adapter.

I'll check those sites.

Okay, sorry for asking a dumb question here. The suggested lenses are 28mm, 50mm, and 135mm manual focus. Now, if I buy just one lens that is 28mm - 200mm, is that mean I can carry one lens instead of three or four? If not, what are the differences?

Some lenses just werent hits in the sharpest dept. So make sure your lens of choice is reputedly sharp. Read "Ken Rockwell" reviews on old Nikons and the like.

that lense is very slow for an adapter.

auto focus lenses work well with adapters. They tend to cost more. People with slr cameras tend to get autofocus lenses, so they can take pictures with autofocus. You dont have to get manual lenses.

primes tend to be sharper than zoom. Prime are also usually faster.

There are alot of resourses on this site that go over this topic in detail. I would do a search under 35 adapter or lense choice.

thats the beginning of the history of that lens ... it makes progress to the f1:2.8 series... thats the one Im recommending for myself. I stop down all my primes to at least that... if not further. This particular zoom is reputed to be very sharp. Seems perfect for an adapter. Seems "The Bourne Ultimatum" liked it too.
