Type of insurance to rent gear?

I have no idea what insurance I need to rent video equipment.
Hello,

I'm no expert (this is my second posting), but general business liability insurance, with appropriately high limits and adding the rental company as an "additional insured" was what I needed (for a national firm, VER, Video Equipment Rentals).

Hope that helps!

Really depends on the rental company. We have worked with some companies that were happy with our owned equipment insurance package, which had a rental equipment provision in it up to $30,000 or so (not very much money). Later, we had to get a $1m general liability policy which is standard and what most industry types will expect or require.

Where can I find a good Insurance company for Production Insurance for a GLP?
I'm in Oregon. And how soon should I obtain a policy like this? So far none of my clients have requested it and I have not rented gear "YET." But I'm sure I will be renting on a regular basis in the near future.

I use Beyer Insurance in Chicago. They know video and film production. It would be a good idea to call a few rental houses and grip truck owners to find out what they require. Generally speaking you can buy rental insurance on a project by proect basis or buy annually. Get to know the temporary rates so you aren't tempted to under bid the insurance line item on your quotes.

Just so you know, when i was searching for insurance, i was quoted 500-800 dollars, 300 for equipment floater, 350 for general liability, and a brokers fee of 200-300. its frustrating if you are on a tight budget.

Insurance is typically required for rentals and most locations require general liability coverage. Both of these are part of production insurance.

One of the places that I have purchased production insurance through is Film Emporium.
