Two Way Radio

Working on a doc now and realized we needed a few two-way radios to keep in touch while on location. I don't want to spend too much - the family two-way radios should be fine. I'd like to be able to get a remote speaker/mic for each one as seen here:

I've seen most people have the motorola's, but I'm told the range isn't great. Anyone have any experience with these? What about Midland? Will different brands work with each other?

Thanks, but some brands have to work better than others. Anyone out there have experience and preference as to which brand/model they prefer?

Ive got a pair of Motorola's Talkabout FRS and they work well around small areas such as a house or in large open spaces. They won't do any good getting over a hill or buildings. Battery life is ok (depends how much you talk), but not great so have some spare batteries around. Im sure thats the same for all brands. Hope that helps!
