Two Vegas 5 questions

Hello everybody, I just want to know:
1. In the most DV cameras there is an effect "slow motion 10x". This effect is like a slow motion in real time. But how to make it in Vegas 5?
2. How to edit frame-by-frame on the timeline in Vegas 5? Or to play frame-by-frame?

Slow Motion in Real Time? Not sure what you are askign about but I think you are asking about a Velocity Envelope. Right Click on the Event and select INSERT VELOCITY ENVELOPE. Adjust the Level Slider up or down for FF or R.

Frame by Frame? Use your Mouse Wheel or Select the 'Zoom in Time' button (Lower Right of Track View Window) that looks like a +/- symbol. Selecting this Expands the Track for fine tuning 'Frame to Frame'.

No, John! The mentioned effect is in some music video clips. For example: you see that a singer is singing or dancing like in slow motion, but actually he sings in unison with the video and the song, i.e there is not real slow motion. In other word, it is like a 15fps or less video.
So,can I get that in Vegas 5, and with which effect?

Have the singer do it twice as fast as how the song goes while you're shooting and slow him down to 50% in post using the velocity envelope that John described.

Oh,nooooo! Do you have a digital photo camera, for example? If you shoot a clip /not photo!/ yoo see on the display almost the same video effect. You can move the photo camera while shooting the video - it is in real time of course, but the display shows less frames per second, and the effects is like a slow motion...
Oh, it is so hard to explain...

Have you tried using a really slow shutter speed?
Yeeeees, there is such an effect in my DV Cam, but I wonder if it is possible to do that in Vegas 5, i.e. normal shoot to become like this via Vegas 5 fx.

I think what you're trying to do is posterize time. I don't know how to do it in Vegas, and don't have Vegas 5 on this computer, but I'll bet that there's a way to do it, probably in the media properties under "undersample".

Barry is correct, the Undersample rate under the events properties dialog will allow you to reduce the frame rate of the clip to get the stuttering look.

Also, if you want to move the cursor on the timeline a frame at a time, hold down the ALT key while you press the left or right arrow key.

To play the timeline frame by frame, set the playback Rate to 0.05. Drag the triangle to the left of the transport buttons under the timeline to change the Rate.

I'll be damned. There it is. Thanks, Barry.

Right click on the event, go to "properties" and change the "undersample rate" to whatever value gives you the effect you desire.

Nice work, Barry!

maybe speed the clip up 200% then render. Place the rendered clip in the timeline and slow it down to 50%. Haven't tried but i like the way it sounds.
