Two quick output questions...

I want to play back some video files on my friend's dvd player. The catch is that I want to play them from my flash drive using the dvd player's USB interface. I looked up the user manual and the player will play back MP3, WAV, JPG, and for video Mpeg-4 (ASF) and DivX (max framerate of 30fps for progressive).

So it looks like I have two options for outputting this stuff. However, I'm not familiar with MP4 or DivX at all. I don't know how to properly render them or if I need a special codec first or what. Any thoughts on this?

:dankk2:

By the way, the footage I want to render was shot on the XH A1 at 24F 1080 and has accompanying sound. The clip I have in mind is about three minutes long, and I'd like for the rendered file to be under 1GB.

Well, I tried to render an mp4, and I had the settings set to 1280x720, and the Include Video and Include Audio boxes checked, but the final product came out to 18mb in size, and when I tried to play it with Winamp, there was audio but no video.

What am I doing wrong?

Well, I should mention that his tv is an HDTV, though I have no idea whether that will make a difference or not. I think he has it hooked up via HDMI, but it might be component. Anyway, if that resolution still doesn't sound feasible, perhaps I should render it at a smaller widescreen resolution?

I also noticed that there are two varieties of MP4 to choose from in the render menu. One being MainConcept AVC/AAC (which I used the first time I tried to render an mp4) and Sony AVC/AAC. I'm not sure if using the Sony one will make any difference though. The MainConcept version had presets for rendering video for iPods, and the Sony version had a few QVGA presets which seem to be for making videos for the PSP. I'll try a few variations and report back for whoever's curious.

I think I've figured out rendering MP4's properly, but I have yet to try it out on the dvd player. I'll let you all know how that goes. :)
