Two crappy occurrances... cripes

So earlier tonight I was discussing my script with my producing partner.. we had a really good talk about it.. and the questions he asked me made me re-think my story... and how many things I had left unaswered that I wanted people to know about.. so I said give me an hour.. and I will re-vise the whole script... and thats what I did..

when I went to save it in Final Draft.. I always save PDF and HTML versions first cause this program crashes on me like crazy.... but this time I forgot.. and saved it in the final draft format... this is hit or miss.. 98% of the time the program crashes... and I hadn't saved yet.. knowing that it would crash on save.. so I decided to save as an HTML file... but me being excited on how well it turn out I just hit save... boom.

8 pages of better writing gone.

So now.. after scrambling to remember the dialogue for the new scene I wrote.. and quickly writing down the changes in timeline I made... I end up with an hour later.. a rushed version.. with different (not as good) dialogue..

I got to check my email... and I get an email from Tribeca that my film has been rejected from the festival.

sigh.... I need a drink..
 
thanks for the offer.. there isn't a file though.. it crashes before it writes to the drive.. so I am left with 4k file of nothing.
 
i don't mean to belabor this, but MM Screenwriter has a timed backup file system working in the background. does Final Draft have a similar system of backup files you could dig thru?

Ouch. That sounds like the worst possible scenario. I once had a crash and FD refused to open the file, or the backup. I opened it in Notepad and slowly dug the script out of the FD formatting.

Then purchased MM.:love4:
 
Loki, for Final Draft got to TOOLS > OPTIONS > GENERAL TAB > There you will see an AUTO BACK-UP box that tells you where your autobackups are saved, I hope for your sake you have it checked. Above it you can also configure how often to back-up. I do it about every 10 minutes.

I am using an old version of FD... the auto backup crashes the program as soon as it saves to the drive. I dunno why.
 
[SIZE=+0]mrWrOng I wish it were true. I went on writing spree once, was 30-40 pages in one day, great dialogue/action etc... then I lost it. I started re-writing what I could but it just wasn't the same. Lightning never strikes twice I guess. There's a happy ending though, I eventually recovered the file. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=+0]Also, if you right click on the Final Draft app (or shortcut I guess) there's a tab for COMPATIBILITY. Try changing that, maybe set it for Win 95. [/SIZE]

aiiiye, I feel the pain man, Have you thought about getting the saving problem fixed? I'd do that ASAP. Cuz once bitten.....

I am gonna just purchase the latest version of final draft I think..
