Twixtor question

I shot at 60fps with 120 shutter. I usually put in AE at 23.976 with comp the same but I want slower. So with Twixtor should I set the frame rate in the plugin to 23.976 or 60? Or should I not interpret it at 23.976 and leave at 60? just not sure what to set the input frame rate in Twixtor as to get best results. Sorry this has probably already been covered countless times but my searching skills must be suspect

Interpret the footage as 23.976, then in Twixtor, input frame rate must match (23.976), then experiment with the speed in percentage, try 50% (120fps) or 25% (240fps)
60fps is a fair bit more temporal resolution than normal 24p footage, which twixtor will lap up, and spit out out some very good frames with hardly any warping.
 
Thanks. I just thought 60 would give Twixtor more to work with, but maybe I'm misunderstanding how it works.
 
well, by shooting 60fps, you ARE giving twix more to work with, more temporal res that is, so you right. Just a technical thing. but twix can work the same results by choosing input frame rate as 60, then output frame rate at 23.976, then speed of your choice. its all the same.
But fields must be none btw.
 
Nope, interpret at 23.976 in a 23.976 comp, put Twixtor input to 23.976, twix output to 23.976, twix "speed" your choice in percentage i.e. 50% = 120fps, 25%= 240fps, 12.5%= 480fps.
Also, a trick is to find the moments with testing that have the least amount of warping artefacts.
 
One more thing, when shooting for slowmo with twixtor, factor in the final framerate the footage will end being, and increase your shutter to match that speed.
You chose a base of 24P and probably 48th shutter, and you shot a 60fps clip at 120th shutter, to be conformed to 24P, which is fine, but by further increasing the framerate say by 50%(120fps) in twix, you'll end up with a clip that'll have a shutter equivalent to a 30th.
As you double the frame rate, you should always double the shutter speed, so that it matches your normal speed footage. e.g.:

30fps- 60th shutter
60fps- 120th shutter
120fps- 240th shutter
240fps- 480th shutter
etc etc

If I decide I want the end look similar to that of 240fps, would it be okay if I used a faster shutter speed? Say...1/2000th?

Ye why not. I often used to use insane shutters, and it works well.
Also if you dont have ND filters, in bright daylight, you dont really have a choice anyway to get your exposure right without closing the aperture (unless you want deep depth of field and more sharpness, then use both aperture and shutter, which all helps Twixtor ATEOTD)
