twinkling starfield

Does anyone know how to create a twinkling starfield from a jpeg, as though viewed from outer space. I'm using Final Cut Pro and trying to get a realistic effect in space.

Thanks for your help.

I've never sused Final Cut Pro, but I can do it in Adobe After Effects. Maybe the concepts are the same. In AE you can generate fractal noise. If you can do this in FCP you're set. Basically I have three noise layers. (1) is used to radomly color white, red, and blue. (2) is used as a Luma Matt and cyles through qucikly to make the colors of (1) fade up and down. Then (3) is scaled down with low brightness and high constrast which which makes a look like stars. Changing the transfer mode to multiply or darken will let (1) and (2) shine through the wholes. Add some glow and you got it.

Here was my attempt. I also have a cloud in the middle as well. The flickering is a little exagerated just to show that it flickers.

This question has been asked a couple times now, I might need to make a tutorial or something.

Very cool tutorial. Thank you. I wish I had After Effects.
Is there a way with only Final Cut Pro, starting with a jpeg starfield, to make a picture of stars twinkle?
