TV monitor...how to set it up?

When doing CC work I like to work off a TV screen. Problem is I can't seem to figure out how to use the TV to show just the video.

I've been dragging the canvas window over and opening it all the way but there's got to be a way of just seeing the video on the screen....right?

OK, so whatever you use to load your video into your 'puter is hooked up via the firewire input.

Hook up the monitor/TV from the video out of the deck/cam that is hooked up via the firewire.

Make sure that under A/V settings in FCP that you have firewire out selected for the video.

Voila! You're done.

Do i have to go through a cam or deck? Is there a way too use the svideo out straight from the computer to do this?

Yes, you have to go out thru a FW converter device. SOME monitors actually have FW port built in, but those are rare.

Other option is to buy a video card like Blackmagic makes... but you're talking $$$ there too.

And when you get a chance, purchase an NTSC broadcast monitor. TVs use special filters to "improve" the signal and that's not what you want. You want as close to the truth as you can get. People joke around that NTSC means never twice the same color, but seriously you'll be amazed by the difference. In otherwords you need to look at an unfiltered signal with good color reproduction. BH has them for as little as $600. That might seem like a lot for a 13" tv but after you've done some CC with it, you'll never look back.
