TV light reflecting off faces

I needs some help. I'm terrible at low light situations.

I need to film a family of four on a couch vegging out, staring at the boob-tube with their jaws slightly open and totally being hypnotized by the TV. It needs to be in a pretty dark area with minimal background lights so as to focus on the subjects. The bluish light of the TV with scene changes, etc., needs to be reflecting off the faces and/or glasses to give the unmistakable impression that they are watching TV. The scene never shows the TV itself, just the reflection makes it obvious.

What should I do to go about getting a scene like that?

Thanks!

A small light with CTB in front of them on a dimmer. Keep flickering the light and that'll give the illusion that the TV light is reflecting into their faces.

I have done this a couple of times. Study the light form the tv next time you are watching it. It is mostly blue. Put a full CTB on a 300w fresnel with it set to broad. Then throw the light on a dimmer and have someone make it flicker. Its really easy and is totally acceptable.

Man! You guys are FAST! Thanks for the tip! Love this site!

I will try to post the results when I get them here in the next couple weeks!

Do glasses on someone's face add any reality in your opinion? Necessary or not?

Thanks again!

I did this the other day but super low budget. Had a 150w blue floodlight bulb and had someone wave their hands in front of it, worked out pretty well!

Ideally you want to soften your source light whether it be a 150w, 300w, 650w, 1k. A 2ft frame or softbox with half diff and full CTB will do the job really well.
