Trying to setup Letus Flip & DVX100A

Hi guys. I've been trying now for quite some time and I'm not sure what I'm doing is right. I've been following the setup tutorial here: http://www.letusdirect.com/letus35-initial-setup.html but I can never see the ground glass grain effect whatever I do. The autofocus for 10 seconds isn't really working, it's either going from focus37 to focus 99 or stops at focus99 like it wants to focus a little more.

When I try to zoom in on a paper now with some text, the text is really blurry and the same with zooming on and focusing on a car, I can't seem to find the focus on the car. It goes from distorted kinda sharp to very blurry.

I'm also using a 50mm 1.8 Canon lens for this.

Any idea what to do to focus on to the ground glass? I think I either need a tutorial for complete idiots or something isn't really right here.

Autofocus of any kind wouldn't work at all on an adapter. In fact it'll screw up your focus because the camera is confused between focusing on the ground glass versus the actual image.

Stop down the SLR lens for like f16 until the grain on the GG becomes really obvious. Manually focus on that and remember the focus readout. That's your GG focus. Now only adjust focus with the lens.

Yeah that's what I thought, the camera didn't seem to know what to focus on.
It has turned dark here so I don't have enough light to test it out yet but I'll do what you said first thing in the morning.. almost reminds me of the day before christmas, you just wanna go to sleep, wake up and open your presents.

Thanks for answering!

If you have trouble seeing the GG try the following:

Your camera focus should be near the minimum distance and you should not try focusing at full video camera telephoto - that might screw you up if that adapter doesn't allow zoom through.
Set the video camera zoom just inside the field of view of the 35mm lens.
Get best focus on the 35mm then try to focus the video camera and go back and forth.

If that doesn't work you may have some kind of problem.

Ok....heres how to back focus :

1. make sure the adapter is turned off
2. take any lens you may have on, OFF.
3. place a white piece of paper in front of the adapter
4. zoom in as much as possible
5. set the focus down until the display says it's entered macro focus
6. zoom out until the focus amount begins to change
7. temporarily put on the lens
8. SLIGHTLY adjust zoom to a pleasurable light falloff at corners*
9. Take off lens
10. adjust focus slightly back and forth until you see grain/dirt/specs
11. Put on lens
12. turn on adapter
13. film

*pleasurable is quite a subjective term, and the optimum can vary between adapters.....vibrating adapters will have alot of falloff no matter what...while rotating adapters can often be adjusted so that no falloff is detected(sometimes depending on quality of glass and/or F/T-stop)

Great! This helped perfectly!

Although my cameras focus is at maximum it doesn't really matter since I wont be using it anyway when the adapter is on.

Thanks again guys, it really helped!
