Trying to salvage this project

I recently suffered a hard drive failure with no recent back up of a project for a client.
The project was actually already finished after the failure but a few weeks later the client came back with changes they wanted with the intro and ending sections.

All I have of the original project is a dvd formatted .m2v file of the video and the .aiff audio track. I tried converting the .m2v file back to Ntsc DV to cut off the intro/ending but now the Ntsc version lost it's sync with the aiff file..... I can't figure out whats causing this but I assume it's some variable when converting formats. In DVD Studio Pro the .m2v and aiff files sync perfectly so it's not a problem with my source...

Can anyone suggest what I can do to sync these files back together?

You didn't say how you converted the .m2v file back into NTSC, but you could try a different software or method of conversion perhaps.

If that doesn't help, I'd try taking a burned DVD of it and ripping it to a single QT mov with something like Cinematize or Handbrake? (not sure if Handbrake can do this, I don't use it)

Since .m2v is a muxed file (audio is embedded in it) you will be able to convert that to a quicktime .mov with audio using Mpeg Streamclip- http://www.squared5.com/. You can then do what you will with the .mov.

I use this all the time during my day job and at home when i need to salvage old projects from a DVD or mpeg-2. Its a great tool.
