Trying to rid of static?

Hello,

I recently filmed a concert, and my mic operator got far too close to the speakers (my fault). I am now editing it, and there is quite a bit of static etc. Was wondering if there is anyway (in FCP) to reduce static?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like your talking about distortion not static. Some noise reduction plugins might help with the static. But since I think you have distortion from clipping (either mic or converters) you have limited options. With analog distortion (mic overload - sounds sort of like a fuzz guitar) it's very hard to do much. With digital distortion (really nasty supper fuzz sound) you might have some hope if it's only in spots. I would try Sound Soap by BIAS. Don't use the Noise reduction part, since that isn't you problem, but try the pop remover (I can't remember the name off hand but it's the slider on the left in the cheap version of SS). I have had some luck recovering usable audio that was clipped. Sometimes it works like a charm and sometimes it doesn't. There are other products out there that will also work in this way but SS is the cheapest and I don't know if you could get much better with out spending $1K+.
Still it's a gamble. I would probably ask around locally to see if you can get someone who has some of these tools and see if any of them make a significant difference.
