Trying to reassemble Manfrotto tripod-need help

I took apart the legs of my MVT502AM for cleaning, and am having trouble putting them back together. Here's the most detailed diagram manfrotto offers: http://mediacdn.shopatron.com/media/mfg/2747/media_document/live_2/MVT502AM_20111118.pdf?1336572372

When I pulled the legs apart, these little plastic pieces fell out (part 1032,20k in diagram). They seem to be used to add friction between the upper and lower legs. However, I can't figure out how they fit back in, and contacting Manfrotto for help has been useless. Anyone have any idea how to do this?

thanks.

Unfortunately, It's a relatively new pod and the office staff do not have repair experience. Your best bet is to send it in for service. Manfrotto Distribution has partnered with C.R.I.S. (Camera Repair Instrument Service) to provide factory repair service for all products sold by Manfrotto Distribution as the exclusive authorized factory service facility in the United States.

When submitting a repair, please include a letter with the following:
• Your name
• Address (for shipping purposes)
• Telephone number
• A detailed explanation of the problem you are experiencing

To expedite the repair process, please note the following requirements:

Warranty service:
You must include a copy of the sales receipt or a proof of purchase with your repair. Without this documentation, we will estimate the repair as if it were out of warranty. A return shipping fee will be charged for a refused estimate.

Out-of-warranty service:
A detailed inspection will be performed on your equipment to determine what repairs are required to restore it to proper working order. An estimate will be provided and repairs will begin once the estimate is approved and payment information is provided.

All packages and repair inquiries should be made to:
