Trying to learn how this effect was done. (someone blowing up)

Hey guys. I saw this music video a few years ago by MIA. Towards the end this kid gets blown up. It's a pretty convincing effect. I'll post the video below. (warning: lots of blood)

If I had to guess, greenscreen was maybe involved with the kid, but the blood explosion itself interacts with the ground, so i'm wondering how they put it in there.

Anyone know how it was done?

Unlike the copilot link above, I don't think the blood and body parts are entirely added in post. Looks like their pyrotechnic crew rigged up a dummy with explosives and filmed it. Take a look at how they used to do head smashing scenes in B movies using melons filled with sticky red sauce. In this case, I think they filmed the dummy being blown up, and the kid running with an explosion right behind him separatly in approximately the same location. The truth is, it didn't even need to be the same location because if you notice, the dust/smoke/debris almost completely covers the background when the body parts fly, which makes it conveniently easier to mask in another scene on top of where the boy was just standing.
All they need to do then is spend a lot of time rotoscoping and animating masks to line up enough to look convincing.
While the dust and smoke may have helped them cheat a little bit in blending the footage together, I don't think a green screen was used. It seems more like a complicated version of this effect:
