trying to learn encore?

i've been a dvdsp user since version 1. but i just started trying to grasp encore for bluray purposes. its been somewhat of a headache.

for starters, should i be able to setup a project thats bluray, 720p and 29.97? or should it be set to 59.94? my video source is 720 30p.

next up on my annoyance list: the menu is 720x480 when i create it. i can't find anyway within encore to change it to 720p. so i open up the menu in photoshop and then change it there.

i've got my buttons created but i still get a bit of a haze outline during the activated state that shows the non activated state.

then when i preview it, it plays really crappy. i'm not sure if thats because i'm on a macbook pro 2.16.

i'm thinking i'm just going to burn a tester and see how it looks....

and pointers would be very helpful and greatly appreciated.

Haven't got into the BLU side of encore, but i can tell you the preview in encore is NOT to be trusted, the field order is never right, best the make an image file (not sure how BLRay is stored) and use it in some disc emulator tools, damon is the best for windows note sure about mac

yeah i figured as much. my computer was laggin a bit on playback. but its taking a loooong time to author to a disc image. hopefully i can give it a test before i go to sleep. i'm trying to have this project finished up tomm.

Adobe Encore will re-transcode your 720P @ 30FPS. To Adobe Encore, 59.94 is the only framerate possible at 1280x720. Re-export your source media to 1280x720 @ 59.94 to save time. If exporting out of Adobe Encore, make sure that "frame blend" is not enabled for each clip in your timeline or your video's cadence will look blurry.

Also be careful when making your project. If you have over 10 menus, or have videos as backgrounds or video transitions, will might be unable to compile your video (in CS3, no experience in CS4 yet). To be more precise, make sure that your adobe encore.exe doesn't take up more than 1.1gb in memory at any time (Look in Task Manager for windows based machines). If you go over this limit, you can expect to have problems compiling a disc.

Even though Adobe claims you can get professional results, its nearly impossible to get them in a retail product since you'll hit program limitations while you're compiling the disc.

If you run into an error message while compiling, google the error message in quotes and see what kind of voodoo magic people had to do to save their projects.

In my personal expierence with Encore, is to create a build when you have a shippable product before adding on more features like extra menus etc.

If you're just going to have a disc that plays the movie and has no menus, you should have little to no problems.

Good luck.

yeah i'm trying to keep it fairly simple. 1 menu with 2 buttons and 2 tracks. i tried creating a disc image yesterday, but it had been like 10 hours and wasn't even at 50% yet(it was a 5gb build). so i figured i'd go back and try re exporting my vids to compression schemes that adobe suggests. i'm almost done re-exporting the second video and then i'm going to give it another go(on my work octo mac).

We did our first blu-ray as 1920 x 1080 in encore. The footage was shot and edited for scope 2.39:1 and started as 4k. Being wider than 16:9 which of course has black bars on an HD set, we made sure we customized one of the specially HD labelled menus in encore which are also 1920 x 1080 specifically for blu-ray. We found that it would transcode in CS3 whereas CS4 had the memory overflow issue Demistate described. So we made a disc image from CS3 and burned from our machine running encore CS4 as it had the blu-ray burner.

so if i'm seeing this correctly, if i'm doing 720p i need to either my export m2v's at either 23.98 or 59.94, no 29.97? the project was shot and edited at 30p.
