trying to find a workflow for noise reduction in Soundtrack Pro

I wonder if anyone can suggest a work flow for making a noise print in Soundtrack Pro so I can reduce noise in an audio clip sent from FCP7. Everything I do doesn't seem to save properly. So I do all the work to reduce noise and I see the noise reduced on the wave form, save the Soundtrack file. But when I import it's the same file I sent with the noise unreduced.

I've tried sending to Soundtrack, sending as .aiff, sending the sequence. Nothing seems to work. I know I'm doing something wrong, but I've been at this for days and still can't get a dependable workflow going.

One thing is for sure -- sending to Soundtrack does not allow me to reduce noise -- that option is always greyed out for some reason. I have to send as .aiff, import that .aiff file to Soundtrack, then do the noise reduction that way.

Any help appreciated!

Part of your problem is that you are fighting the workflow. FCP/ STP work pretty much the way a film work flow works which is you do the picture and send that to sound post. You don't go back and forth.

But to your problem. I don't think "saving" will work because STP is going to be saving STAP(I think that's right ST?P anyway) files and you can't import those into FCP. I think you need to "export" the file. STP isn't the best way to work with sound but it should be OK.

The "send to" should work also. The NR will be grayed out till you have taken a noise print that STP is happy with. BUT STP is not a destructive editor so trying to send bits to it to process and bring back into FCP is going to be like pulling teeth.
