Trying to export for DVD....wtf?

You really want to have Toast. Also, one off DVDs like you're making are not 100% bullet proof/compatible.

I'd STRONGLY suggest the "Compressor Quick-Reference Manual", it's only about $23 on-line, and will easily and quickly get you to understand the encoding process. NEVER let DVDSP do your encode for you.

I'd also STRONGLY suggest you do the first of the really great tutorials that comes with DVDSP before jumping into anything.

hey ben, are you talking about the dvd tutorial that came with final cut studio that has the tutorials for FCP/STP/Motion/DVDSTP? i've been looking at that just recently. oh yea, i encoded my movie in compressor also.

Yes, many folks dismiss those tutorials, but they're all really well done. The very first lesson in DVDSP is the BEST way to get started in the applicaiton. The APTS book on DVDSP is pretty good, to, but the ones that come with DVDSP are really good. Why most people ignore them I don't know. Maybe cause other software has crapy tutorials with them, or none?

u got a point. i think i'll spend a little more time in the tutorial dvd and do their project from start to finish because now i need to know how to create a rollover or overlay button for the menu. can i somehow copy a premade rollover button from one of the templates somehow and paste it into my project?

by the way, i got a clean burn from DVDSTP last night on my movie file. i guess the other one was just a bad copy.

Another point to remember is, if you so use Toast, or the much cheaper and just as good Dragon Burn, DVDSP will make two files in the TS_VIDEO folder you will want to trash before burning. BTW, I have no idea why folks make an IMG of the DVD before burning to Toast. I don't see any advantage to it over just burning the TS_AUDIO and TS_VIDEO folder straight up.

Anyway, the two files refered to in your error message are Layout files used ONLY by DVDSP. It's so you can go back and make changes to the DVD, and DVDSP can "update" the TS_VIDEO folder's data. It's not how I work, I've had problems with that in the past. If I make changes to a DVD, I just build new TS folders from scratch. The process is not that long.

So the two Layout files HAVE to be trashed before burning a DVD with Dragon Burn or Toast or the Finder (haven't tried that, but I know someone who claims it works just fine). They can and have cause occational problems with set-top DVD players.

They are the .layout and .lay files. As soon as you run the Build and have your two TS folders (audio will be empty, but still needs to be there), remove them from the TS_VIDEO folder ASAP. Trash them, they do nothing for you, really.

Its easier for me to keep track of images by making them .img instead of just using the video_ts folder.

A .img can be mounted on any mac system without the need for a program to playback the video_ts folder. So i can quickly just mount the .img file to look at a dvd instead of using a program for the Video_ts folder.

Apple's DVD Player will play directly from the TS_VIDEO folder, too, just the same. I still don't know what making an IMG file does for the process.

and i dont know what making a video_ts does...

am i missing something here?

feel like im on candid camera

The VIDEO_TS folder is the actual data that DVD players read. You hit Burn in DVDSP, it makes the folders. Then you trash the two Layout files, and just use the Finder to burn your DVD. An IMG is making a disk image, a whole extra, unnessisary step that is, IMHO, more parts to break down.

You actually don't even need Toast, you can just burn from the Finder. I'd heard about it, just tried it, works. No more need for Toast...

Theres no need to explain what that, im not a n3wb. Unless you got a train to catch, i dont see why making a single .img file from the disc is such a hassle. to each his own i suppose.
