Trying to export Apple like trailers.

Just spent the whole day trying to figure out how to export a trailer.

I am trying to achieve a great quality movie trailer.

I want my movie trailer to be as good as quality as the trailers found at www.apple.com/trailers

I have spent a whole day know looking for the answer online, can’t find it.

Can you help me.

I noticed all the trailers on apples webpage are reasonable size at great resolutions and quality.

I need to know how to do all sizes

1080P
720P
And 480P

I have really good 1080 footage to start with. I have both sorenece and squeeze and apple compressor 3.

I do believe they are using Apple Compressor 3 using the H.264 codec…. But those are all the details I know. There is over 2 dozen of settings to be chosen. Have to do every setting perfect to get the great quality.

Can you provide me with complete details on how to achieve this.

There are thousands of people who are looking for this same answer.
Go on Google and see.

You will be a huge help.

Thanks

Brendan Collins

ps if you can create presets that would be even better.

my 2 cents...

they are shooting in 35mm film stock (most movies anyways)
they are using higher end encoders such as Sonic Solutions (not compressor)

I think it really comes down to your raw footage... probably won't fully achieve it unless your shootin on film

Don't get me wrong I know exactly what you're goin through. I've tried hundreds of different exports...

Audio can make a big difference - I export with Apple Lossless format - noticed a little difference.

the encoding on Apple trailers isn't that great. it's Compressor that they're using. doing a simple "get info" on the trailers for Charlie Wilson's War reveals the following. you could easily consider these targets...

720p:
FORMAT: H.264 Decoder, 1280 x 688, Millions
AAC, 5.1 (C L R Ls Rs LFE), 48.000 kHz
FRAME RATE: 23.98
DATA SIZE: 120mb (for 2mins 30secs)
DATA RATE: 6800 kbits/s

1080p:
FORMAT: H.264 Decoder, 1920 x 1056, Millions
AAC, 5.1 (C L R Ls Rs LFE), 48.000 kHz
FRAME RATE: 23.98
DATA SIZE: 180mb (for 2mins 30secs)
DATA RATE: 10,900 kbits/s

encode those specs with compressor vs. a high end app. such as sonic & i am sure you will find the results interesting

you will never get the same results from an ap. that costs 10x of the price of compressor

(though technically the numbers match)
the quality is NOT the same

no high end post house uses compressor to encode
i work for a "mid level" post house & we don't even use compressor

i was at an Apple FCS2 event last year here in LA and was told that they are using Compressor 3 for everything from the HD trailers to the shows offered on the iTunes Store.
