trying to export a low res file

Hi all,

I've been having a real head ache with something that seems to be an easy task. I need to get a low res, smaller file of my video to a sound mixer. We shot in 7d and are working with pro res files.

-At first I just tried h.264 which makes it a huge file that fills the screen.
-Then I tried a few more export options in fcp and got a smaller screen but the top and bottoms cut off.
- the last thing i tried was exporting h.264 through compressor and in the settings set the quality to low, and the dimensions to 50% of source and got, again, a cropped video.

Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

in final cut you can go to file-export-using quicktime conversion. click the options button (i think thats what it is, im not on my edit suite right now)

under the video settings use the "faster encode" option, and set the bit rate in the top right to something low (around 300 is what i would normally use) then click okay

then i think there is a second option on that screen that allows you to set your frame size. just do what ever size your mixer needs, probably something smaller than 640x480, I normally select the "custom size" option and enter in the dimensions manually. click okay

finally set your audio encoding and bitrate. i normally do aac at 128kbps

hope that helps!
